Legendary comedian and actor, Bob Newhart will receive the title of Television Icon at this year’s Critics’ Choice Awards. The 83-year-old has not only been a steady figure on television since his season-long variety show in 1961, but he’s also never stopped performing stand-up. Arguably best known for starring in the 70s sitcom The Bob Newhart Show and then Newhart, he’s recently guested on Desperate Housewives, NCIS and Big Bang Theory (a role that earned him a 2013 Emmy nomination for best guest comedy actor).
“Bob Newhart has entertained us for more than five decades, not only as a fixture on our TV screens, but as someone who has placed an indelible stamp on the entertainment business,” says Joey Berlin, Broadcast Television Journalists Association’s President. The 3rd Annual Critics’ Choice Awards will be held on June 10 in Los Angeles and will be hosted by Retta, who plays Donna on Parks and Recreation. The entire event will be streamed live on Ustream.
